Godliness, Mountains, and Never Measuring Up

Ever had one of those days that you just felt like you couldn’t measure up? Like at the end of the day it seemed like nothing you were doing, had done, or could think to do was producing any real results? Maybe it is just me, but I tend to have these days fairly regularly. They are not something I look forward to but they do stand as a reminder that God’s grace is multiplying and empowering every step of the way. When we have these days we can respond a few different ways. The most common would have to be continuing downward in a negative whirlpool of self but is that really supposed to be the natural response for those of us who are abiding in Christ? I am so guilty of wracking my brain trying to figure out how to produce results, we stress and stress, dig our heels in, and fight tooth/nail to make some form of advancement but  always somehow come up wanting. There is a good side to these days, a silver lining to all the rubble of our failures. It is that In Christ we already have everything we need. Lets look at a few verses.

2 Peter 1:2-4

2 May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. 3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, 4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.

How awesome of a truth! At the end of the day it is in our failures that God’s strength and capability shines through.  We have been given everything needed(YES EVERYTHING) to not only succeed in the affairs of life but also in Godliness! So not only has Christ become for us all wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption but also He has made us to reign in this life! This seems like an oblivious truth to many in the modern church. For whatever reason we tend to associate suffering with Godliness. That if we are not barely scraping by, if we are not dirt poor, and struggling to succeed then we are not abiding in Christ. It is like so often we find our identity and comfort in struggles and pain. It is as if we are not living through cycles, and cycles, of brief mountain tops and long valleys then we  have no grasp on our identity.  If you think that the God of the universe desires for you to constantly “climb mountains” then chew on this: He told us we could move mountains by our faith. So why in the world would you climb one? Stand firm today and believe! There is nothing too big for the power that is in you by Christ Jesus. By faith you have been united with Christ! You have become New! You have become a partaker of His Divine Nature! So drink up! I encourage you to read John Chapter six and allow Holy Spirit reveal to your heart that at the end of the day we have nothing to offer God. And the only thing He ask of us is for us to BELIEVE. He has provided everything else! We have received such a great adoption, so great that we should stop living in tragic neglect of all the LIFE that Christ purchased for us. Having one of those days? Struggling with sin? Life falling apart? Not feeling adequate? Step back, take a breath, go to your Daddy God and let him empower you to accomplish whatever task lies before you!

Hebrews 4:16

16Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

He delights to give you the Kingdom! Stand firm beloved!

Through whom, to whom, and for whom all things exist!
